Why is T2 in spring barley important?

So, Craig why do you think the T2 fungicide timing in spring barley is so important?

Well the T2 is the main yield builder of the barley crop and getting the timing absolutely right is critical to protecting the awns and protecting the yield. You’ve got the diseases of net blotch, ramularia, brown rust, rhynchosporium building in the base of the canopy and we don’t want them to transpire up on to the awns.

So, what are the potential consequences of getting the T2 fungicide timing wrong?

The consequences are that the latent period of the diseases are already building in the bottom of the crop and transferred up to the awns. We want to be more proactive with the chemistry that were using the Siltra, the Fandangos and putting less reliance on the chemistry and getting the latent period much earlier, so we’re protecting the awns rather than curing them.
