Importance

Prefers cool damp climates - common in spring cereals and vegetables. A problem especially in Scotland.

1. Large oval to round cotyledons with backward directed lobes at the base of the leaf blade.

2. The true leaves are markedly toothed, veined, hairy and pointed, arising in pairs up the stem on fairly long stalks.

3. An upright annual with square hairy stems and rings of purple flowers at the top.
