Importance

Widespread, likes heavy damp soils. A local problem.

1. The plant generally grows from root stocks, but seedlings do occur. The first leaves are broad, woolly or hairy and toothed on the margins.

2. Following leaves are heart-shaped, angular, large and have downy hairs beneath.

3. A prostrate perennial which sends up short thick flowering stems some six inches tall, before leaves appear in the early spring.
